Credit-Counseling-Company--Fast-Track Tips to Avoid Debt from the Holidays

Holidays are a difficult time to avoid building debt. You want to get gifts for everyone - especially if you have kids in your life. According to a study by Lexington Law, nearly 60-percent of Americans parents say they're willing to take on additional debt to make the holidays merry for their children.

  1. Avoid letting ourselves fall into a mentality that says savings and happy children are mutually exclusive. Set a budget for yourself and stick to it. If this means creating a spending plan for the holidays, do it. Your children will ultimately be happier if you can keep on affording the basics and if you can start saving for them. They may be upset now that a toy was sacrificed. Yet they'll benefit from the family being in a better financial situation later. Pacing yourself on holiday spending is a tip we can bring forward into this new year. Pace yourself on all your spending. Make a plan and stick to it.

  1. The holidays offered a lot of really good bargains. Or did they? You see, the more “bargains” we see, the more our minds begin to justify spending. Stores know that anytime they have good sales, you'll buy more. You end up spending more than you normally would because it's hard to pass up bargains. Learn to pass up many (most!) bargains. Stores offer deals r to get you to walk in and buy things you normally wouldn't. Don’t fall for it.

  1. Holiday potlucks have always been a tradition with some families and their friends. Carry this forward. Going out to a movie and having pretty tasteless popcorn and drinks can cost $60-80 for a family of four. Staying in and inviting friends over for a potluck costs the price of a home-cooked meal and a Redbox rental, or a Netflix subscription you already have. Figure $10-15 at most, you can have as many people as fit in the space, and you get to talk during the movie. What's not to like?

If you have spent too much over the holidays, don't hide from your debt. Address it before it snowballs. Find a credit counselor and discuss your options. A credit counseling company can help head debt off before it looms large and ruins future holidays.
